How returns are calculated

Plain-language definitions for the metrics above.

  • Cost basis

What you paid in total across all buys, swaps, and transfers — including entry fees. Enter it as a single total per holding, not per unit.

  • Unrealized gain / loss

Current value minus cost basis. This gain exists on paper but has not been locked in by a sale.

  • Realized gain / loss

Profit or loss from positions you have already closed. Negative values represent realized losses.

  • Staking / yield income

Rewards from staking, lending, and platform yield. Tracked separately so you can see how much of your return comes from holding versus price movement.

  • Fees

Network, exchange, and transfer costs subtracted from your return. Fees are often overlooked but directly reduce what you keep.

  • True return %

Net profit / loss divided by total cost basis — the clearest single number showing whether your portfolio is actually ahead.
